Early labour can last for hours or days and established labour can last for an average of 8-18 hours so it’s important to note that there isn't a right length of labour or a clear distinction between early and established labour, it’s about working with the unique pace of your contractions.
Labour involves contractions, which help to move your baby into a better position for labour and birth as well as shortening your uterus muscles to open your cervix.
And a balance of hormones are needed to create strong, effective contractions.
