It is really easy to only focus on the problems, the stresses and, maybe, what you feel we are getting wrong. But what about focusing on what you are getting right?
I’m keen to talk about new habits to focus on how well you handle the challenges. Instead of only thinking about the tough stuff, maybe it’s time to shift the focus to think about how you dealt with it so you can find a positive focus and also think about how you might do thing differently, if appropriate.
I often think about this when I talk to women about birth or their babies - so much is about what is a struggle but mums very rarely give themselves credit for how well they are doing. Whether you have a newborn baby or a teenager, try thinking about these questions…
What has been a challenge for you this week?
How did you handle this challenge?
What did you do well?
And is there anything you could have done differently?
Skills for stress
Using your breathing throughout the day can ease tension, slow your heart rate and give you back some balance and you’ll have simple and effective skills to use when you need it for stress or anxiety.

It can also be helpful to make a note of the challenges as well as how you handled them. This gives you something to reflect on and as a reminder of what went well, rather than just remembering what you struggled with.
I’d love your comments and let me know how you get on. I’m also available for 1:1 sessions to focus on you.
