What does being at the centre of your care mean?
It’s about focusing on your individual need for information and reassurance so you know what your options are, so you know what your care involves and so you can think about what you need.
There’s so much information and opinion out there about birth and babies, it can be conflicting and it can be overwhelming.
And so much of the birth preparation information is presented as what you should do, rather than as information, options and ideas about what you can do to for your labour and birth.
It can make a difference to think - what do I need? to focus on what matters to you. And this can be in pregnancy, for and during birth and with your baby so you are not fobbed off with general information, which is not specific to you.
Being at the centre of your care means you have a better understanding of what is happening, your options and next steps and it means that any appointments and conversations are tailored to you.
I have worked with parents who feel uncomfortable at the idea of asking questions or saying they don’t understanding something but it’s important to have a voice and to say what you need because that means you are included in your care and in any decisions.
This is your pregnancy, your birth and your baby so it does make a difference to be at the centre of it.
Please do also leave your comments and questions below and you can also book a consultation with me to focus on your birth, baby and being a parent.
